our story...

Hey There! We are Walt Grace, a husband-and-wife alt-folk duo.

Currently based in Sydney, Australia, we met half a world away from home, studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and it didn’t take long for us to realise we’d found the missing parts of ourselves in each other. We’ve been inseparable ever since, fumbling through the world together like troubadours, with music inextricably threaded through every moment.

Music isn’t just a passion for us - it’s a way of life. It’s something real, in a time where seeing is no longer believing. It’s something constant in the seas of ever-change. And yet, it’s ephemeral too - a journey, a moment… an experience. A song can make you laugh one day, and cry the next; there’s always something more to notice. It’s somehow universal and intensely personal at once.

The power of a song is no accident. It’s prosody. It’s having a colour palette of compositional options that’s vast enough for you to make choices that mirror the feelings you want to capture in the storytelling. We have spent our lives together studying those colours, formally and informally, in the music around us. We’ve lived around the world; teaching, performing, practicing - always learning from the space we find ourselves in, and all else that exists within it.

But there’s also a magic to it all - the indefinable.

As Walt Grace, we embrace imperfection, the humanness of creativity. We want to share our stories with you; some of them real, some of them puppet shows with which to play out our experience of the world. Our music is a blend of intuition and artfulness, offering glimpses of the unabashedly real and sometimes poetic, with influences like Kate Bush, John Mayer, and Fleet Foxes. Over time, we’ve crafted our own sense of style, reading each other live and leaning into the risks and steeped traditions of improvisation. No two shows are ever alike, and together, we follow the tangents.

Beyond our music, we are dedicated educators, having taught at various institutions worldwide including Berklee Online and Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Here in The Studio, we offer group and individual sessions, as well as our Studio subscription: weekly songwriting, production, vocal and guitar tips. We hope to inspire, and to help your music become the best version of what it intends to be.

Thanks for stopping by!
